Ryan Hart

Ryan Hart specializes on the importance and priority of the personal experience for understanding illness. Between 2009 and ‘15, Ryan was diagnosed with cancer twice, awarded the 2013 American Cancer Society Visionary Award for founding the Thiel College Relay for Life, and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy.

Hart earned his master’s degree in philosophy at KU Leuven in Belgium, thesis: “Humanity, Science, and Spirit.”  Now he is focused on integrating phenomenological philosophy as stimulus and vehicle for better understanding the meaning of being seriously ill.

The work of Havi Carel has guided his efforts to integrate phenomenology with his own illness memoirs, cancerexpressions.org.  Ryan is now in Galveston, TX working toward a PhD with the Institute of Medical Humanities at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
